Engagement photos are a time to get a great set of professional photos, but they can also be an opportunity to relive memories — and even to create new ones. So we love it when we have engagement shoots at personally meaningful locations! Eric and Cory’s first date was at Stanford, and for their engagement photos, we started at the cactus garden and then moved onto main campus. The golden glow of the setting sun provided a perfect feel for this shoot; it was like a materialization of the warmth and love between them and gave these photos a look that perfectly matched the feeling of our hour together. Maggie & Joseph first met each other at UC Berkeley, and later both moved to Hong Kong after finishing school. They flew back to Berkeley for their engagement session, taking me on a trip around campus and showing me a few spots I had never been to, like the Hearst Memorial Mining Building and its stunningly beautiful and grand interior. “Fwd: FW: National Championship Project” — that was the subject line of an email that Jack got from Stanford, inviting his girlfriend Nicole, a Stanford alumna and tennis champion, to participate in a profile for the athletics department to celebrate 40 years of Stanford national championships. All she had to do was schedule a time to visit Stanford to meet with some photographers on campus.

We had the honor of photographing Will proposing to Sam under a golden spotlight at the Palace of Fine Arts in August (see pics here), and exactly four months later, we met them on the UCLA campus for their engagement photos. UCLA is where they had both gone to school and grown closer as a couple, and I’m really glad our travel plans lined up and we were able to take their engagement photos in a meaningful spot for them!
